Daily activities, fitness, food and drink are all part of the fun planned for Buffalo's Outer Harbor

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. and the newly created Outer Harbor Management Group (OHMG) today announced their 2016 season of new site amenities, summer events and public-access programming, ensuring Buffalo's Outer Harbor waterfront will be a destination for the entire Western New York community as well as the region's visitors.

Taking advantage of one of downtown's most picturesque locations, visitors to the Outer Harbor will be able to partake in fitness classes, rent bikes or water sport equipment or just enjoy a summer sunset with food and drinks at the Wilkeson Pointe Concessions and Beer Garden. In addition, more than 20 special events are already planned throughout the summer, starting with "Architects of Air," a unique inflatable maze of winding paths and soaring domes designed to generate a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and color.

Visit www.outerharborbuffalo.com for a complete calendar of events, featuring July 4th fireworks, the BNBA Buffalo Beer Fest, Thunder at the Outer Harbor Racing Boat and Hot Rod show and the 35th annual Buffalo Irish Festival. Information on all fitness and equipment rentals can also be found on the site or on Outer Harbor's social media accounts, www.facebook.com/OuterHarborBuffalo or @OuterHarborBFLO on Twitter and Instagram.

"This will be the summer our community and its tourists discover Buffalo's Outer Harbor, and I'm sure they will keep coming back to enjoy its natural beauty," ECHDC Chairman Robert Gioia said. "Outer Harbor Management Group has worked hard to come up with fun recreational activities, as well as amenities to help visitors unwind. We hope you take the time to come enjoy it yourself."

"A collection of parks and public places along the Outer Harbor invites people to visit the new, historic and natural attractions available along the water's edge," Congressman Brian Higgins said. "The expansion of public programing gives people another reason to explore Buffalo's front lawn to the Great Lakes."

"With the tremendous support of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, as well as Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, County Executive Mark Poloncarz and all our elected officials, the Outer Harbor Management Group has brought our family-friendly event-based programing that fans have enjoyed for many years at Coca-Cola Field to one of the most picturesque areas of our region," said Jonathan A. Dandes, president of Rich Baseball Operations. "The new Outer Harbor waterfront will combine public access to fitness and leisure activities with fun-filled events to create a must-attend destination for both Buffalonians and our region's visitors."

Wilkeson Pointe Consumer's Beverages Concession and Beer Garden will open starting at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26. Its regular hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 pm. Monday through Sunday. The concession area will feature light snacks, Coca-Cola products, Try-It Distributing products and other local craft beers.

Daily activities at Wilkeson Pointe include bike rentals and water sport, including kayaks, paddleboards and water bikes rentals from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Fitness programs will be offered throughout the summer, including a paddleboard yoga class in the early mornings throughout the summer; "Love in Motion Yoga" at 9 a.m. on Saturdays (starting June 4) and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays (starting June 1); and a summer-long "Power-Hour At the Pointe" fitness class every Saturday at 8 a.m. starting June 4.
