Can You Help: Benefit fundraiser for the Summit Center

Denise Plennert and Debbie Wilson, parents of two autistic children, have announced plans for a basket auction fundraiser to benefit the Summit Center in Getzville. The event will be held from 4-8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Lewiston No. 2 Volunteer Fire Co. firehall, 1705 Saunders Settlement Road in Lewiston.

"This is our second year doing an autism basket auction. Our daughters go to Summit Center's summer social skills program. We do this to raise scholarship money for families who may not be able to afford this great program," Plennert said.

Wilson said the Summit Walk that both girls participate in aims to raise money for the less fortunate. "We are trying something new with a basket auction fundraiser ... to help more families who may not have the financial resources to pay for this incredible program."

Both said Summit's social skills program helps children and adolescents fit into social situations so they may go on to become productive members of society.

The fundraiser will include entertainment by the Southern Lites Band, food and one sheet of auction tickets. A 50/50 split raffle will also be offered. The basket action will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Cost is $15 for adults; children ages 6-12 are $5; and those under age 6 are admitted free.
