Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School students, faculty and staff will volunteer throughout Niagara County May 3 as part of their annual "Day of Caring." Approximately 200 volunteers will participate in activities at 20 sites throughout the area.

Students in grades seven through 12 will partake in gardening, cleaning, organizing of food pantries, running bingo programs at senior centers, and working with pre-K students. They will also volunteer at the City of Niagara Falls Police Department.

Last year, students organized a bingo game for residents of Wheatfield Towers in Niagara Falls. They donated $50 to the Red Cross after selling bingo boards, 50/50 raffle tickets and snacks.

"It was nice how happy the residents were to see us. I enjoyed knowing that we made their days better," junior Sarah DeVantier said.

Dean of Students Kristen Hill said, "This day is a great way to make a difference in the lives of others. There is nothing greater than seeing the faces of community members who have been helped, or the students' faces when they feel appreciated."

Since its inception three years ago, students, staff and parents have completed more than 3,000 volunteer hours. This year, students are expected to complete 1,000 hours.

For more information, contact Hill at 716-283-8771, ext. 319.
