Shoreline sweeps scheduled at Erie County Parks

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper seeks volunteers for area-wide Earth Day cleanup 

Four Erie County parks will be among the two-dozen-plus local sites selected for shoreline sweeps by Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper as part of Earth Day cleanup efforts from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 23. The Red Jacket Riverfront Natural Habitat Park, Seneca Bluffs Natural Habitat Park and the Ellicott Creek Park and Island areas will be sites for the sweeps, which are the largest single-day shoreline cleanups in Western New York.

"Events like this are a great way for residents to play an active role in keeping our parks clean, enjoy an Earth-friendly activity, and work together to protect our environment," Erie County Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Forestry Daniel J. Rizzo said. "There are many sites looking for volunteers in addition to the sites in our parks, so there are many ways to help in keeping our water clean this Earth Day."

Volunteers of all ages are welcome and will be provided with cleanup materials at the site. A parent or guardian must supervise children under the age of 18. For more information or to register for a shoreline sweep site, visit http://bnriverkeeper.org/cleanup/.
