Obit: Thomas R. Goodroe

Thomas R. Goodroe, age 88, of the Town of Lewiston, died after a brief illness Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston.

He was born May 25, 1927, in Niagara Falls, the son of the late Henry and Clara (Applebee) Goodroe. He attended LaSalle High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1945.

Goodroe was stationed in Panama as part of Battery D. Harbor Defense. He was honorably discharged as a private in December of 1946. On Sept. 12, 1953, he married Harriet (Sarazen) Goodroe and they moved to the Town of Lewiston in 1955. Harriet predeceased him in 1992.

Goodroe was an electrician, a member of IBEW 2104, and was employed by the New York Power Authority for over 30 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a life member of the Lewiston No. 1 Volunteer Fire Co., and was a fire company exempt member, a member of the Benevolent Association and the Fire Police Association. Goodroe was also a charter member of Loyal Order of Moose Lower Niagara Lodge No. 584 in Lewiston and a former member of the 3-F Club. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing cards, bowling and hunting.

Goodroe is survived by his loving companion and best friend since 1995, Bea Seefeldt; his daughters, Denise (Michael) Lauzonis of Newfane, Cindy (José) Flores of Niagara Falls, Joanne (William) Wollaber of the Town of Cambria, and Diane (Brian) Christman of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Kristy Lauzonis, Jessica Kedzierski, Katie Lauzonis and Janelle, Joseph and Michael Flores, Jennifer Rankee, Amy Curran, William Wollaber and Brian A., Nathaniel and Nicholas Christman; and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Clara, Anna, Henry, Helen, Larry, Bob, Irene and Margaret.

Visitation took place at Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston, on Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
