The Erie County Fair has announced its first concert of the 2016 National Grid Concert Series. Pop star Shawn Mendes will perform on the GUSTO Grandstand stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.

The 17-year-old Canadian is making the Erie County Fair a stop on his first ever solo "Shawn Mendes World Tour," which will tour 38 cities after a sold-out kickoff performance at Radio City Music Hall in March.

Mendes was discovered on the video-sharing app Vine where he grew to Internet fame with his six-second covers of popular songs. He was signed by Island Records and released his first EP, "Handwritten," last March. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200.

The first single off the "Handwritten" album, "Life of the Party," went straight to Billboard's top 25. This achievement made Mendes the youngest person to have a debut single hit the list in its first week. "Handwritten" was certified platinum with more than 2 million worldwide adjusted sales.

Other singles include "Something Big" and the hit of the fall, "Stitches," which was co-written by Buffalo native Teddy Geiger. "Stitches" peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard charts.

In November, Mendes re-released "Handwritten" as "Handwritten: Revisited," which featured new songs including his current single, "I Know What You Did Last Summer," a duet with Fifth Harmony vocalist Camilla Cabello. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" has continued to trend in the iTunes top 10 since its release.

Drawing his inspiration from artists such as Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars, Mendes is looking to continue to be a musical force on the pop scene. He is well on his way with a 2016 People's Choice Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year as well as a spot on Forbes' annual "30 Under 30" list.

Tickets for the show will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. Reserved tickets on the track will be $45 while general admission seats in the grandstand will be $35. Tickets will be on sale via tickets.com or over the phone by calling 1-888-223-6000. Service fees may apply. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Fairgrounds main office from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays

Grandstand tickets purchased in advance include admission to the Fair on the day of the show.

Members of ShawnAccess.com will receive a code that allows them to purchase tickets beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15 (for an additional charge). American Express cardholders will have access to tickets at 10 a.m. Feb. 16.

More acts will be announced as the Fair approaches. The 177th Erie County Fair will take place Aug. 10-21.
