Canisius College will host a professional development conference for mathematics teachers from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, in Science Hall. The conference, titled "Mathematics: Making Connections," is for mathematics teachers working with students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Sessions offered will provide teachers with opportunities to discuss the common core in mathematics, successful strategies for reaching struggling mathematics students, differentiating instruction in mathematics for all students, and preparing their students for college programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The keynote speaker will be Eileen Ryan, elementary teacher in the Williamsville School District, who will ask attendees to "Please Watch Your Language" as she encourages them to make small changes to mathematics communication skills.
