Newly elected Town Supervisor Nathan McMurray appointed Grand Island Democratic Party chairman Jim Sharpe as deputy supervisor.

McMurray made the appointment during Monday's Town Board reorganization meeting at Town Hall. The appointment did not need approval from the other members of the board.

"He has done just about everything you can do in this town," McMurray said in explaining his appointment. "He was a Town Board member for eight years. He worked with me on my campaign. I became close with him during that time. Jim knows many of the things that I don't know. He knows a lot about procedure, how Town Hall works and he knows the history of this town and the government of this town very well."

McMurray, in his first meeting since being elected to his first public office, said, "I am proud to work with Jim and I will rely on him as a sounding board, as a support."
