The Queen City Roller Girls will kick-off 2016, and their 10th season, at 2 p.m. Saturday inside RiverWorks, 359 Ganson St., Buffalo. The season opener pairs home teams the Suicidal Saucies and the Devil Dollies. Doors will open at 1 p.m. with first whistle at 2 p.m.

With a redraft from last year, these teams feature only a handful of returning skaters. This bout will be the first for 14 rookie skaters.

For the first year since 2011, there will be a new champion at the end of the season, as the Knockouts retired. No one knows how these teams will mesh and find a rhythm, so fans are excited to see how this will play out.

About the Queen City Roller Girls

Founded in 2006, the Queen City Roller Girls are Western New York's premier women's flat track roller derby league. The skater-owned and -operated league consists of three home teams and a travel team representing the Buffalo area in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (the Lake Effect Furies), a travel B team and a junior league.

Since its inception, the Queen City Roller Girls' mission has always been to provide opportunities for athleticism, camaraderie and self-expression. Founded and supported entirely through the efforts of nonpaid skaters, officials and volunteers, QCRG has grown to more than 150 members and continues to expand throughout the Buffalo-Niagara Region.
