Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs announced First Student has joined his "Fleet Services" initiative at the Erie County Auto Bureau. This newest service focuses on companies with fleets of 10 or more cars, trucks or trailers and continues efforts to keep revenue dollars in Erie County by encouraging business owners to renew all their vehicle registrations locally.

"First Student operates 1,200 transportation vehicles throughout Erie County, and all require new registrations on a yearly basis," Jacobs said. "The revenue generated by them renewing locally with the Erie County Auto Bureau means thousands of dollars in critical revenue that remains here in Erie County - not Albany - and we thank First Student for their involvement in our 'Renew Local' efforts."

The "Fleet Services" team offers built-in advantages, which include a designated representative to assist in expediting transactions and streamlining a fleet's renewal dates.

Jacobs reminded business owners and motorists that, by going online or mailing their registration renewals in the pink envelope to the New York State DMV, they're sending revenue directly to Albany.

"Our priority is to safely transport children and, if our vehicles are not properly registered, they do not go on the roads," said Victor Kaye, location manager for First Student. "We are lucky to have a partner in the Erie County Auto Bureau that assists us in managing our entire fleet and ensures that all our busses and vehicles are properly registered. The 'Fleet Services' initiative has been a real advantage for our company."

If all Erie County drivers renewed locally, Jacobs said, the Auto Bureau would generate more than $1.5 million in additional revenue. These excess monies could support county services that are vital to the entire community.

Jacobs has reached out to hundreds of businesses regarding the "Fleet Services" initiative and has landed commitments from a number of other locally owned companies with large vehicle fleets.

"This is a win-win opportunity - your company receives personalized attention and Erie County retains a portion of the transaction fees," Jacobs said.
