Did you know roughly half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. - when most people are asleep? Students at St. Peter R.C. School were taught this valuable lesson - and told smoke alarms save lives. They learned these and other lessons relating to fire safety during Fire Safety Month.

Throughout the month, firefighters from Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 - located next to the school - treated students to classroom demonstrations on fire safety. They also held a poster contest with the winners selected to ride a fire truck to school and treated to a lunch at the firehall.

Pictured are some of the poster contest winners along with Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 employees.
