The Women's Business Center at Canisius College received a $26,300 grant from the First Niagara Foundation to fund programs in its Forum Series, which supports women entrepreneurs through the steps of new business establishment and expansion.

In 2014, the First Niagara Foundation supported the Forum Series with a $20,000 grant.

Forums are comprised of women from noncompeting businesses similar in size, revenue and number of employees. Programs are led by expert facilitators who are specially trained to elicit the most creative thoughts and strategic problem-solving techniques. Participants also meet individually with a business counselor at a local Small Business Development Center.

The "Year One" program focuses on how to successfully launch a business. The "growing" program focuses on learning growth strategies, including financing, hiring, scaling and becoming Women's Business Enterprise certified.

A membership in the WBC is included with the program. Participants have access to all the center's educational programming and networking sessions.

As a result of what they have gained from the forums, nine participants have successfully launched new business in Western New York and others have been able to expand their businesses.

For more information about the Women's Business Center and the Forum Series, contact the WBC at 716-888-8280.

Canisius is one of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation.
