Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has tapped Judith A. Nolan Powell to become its vice president of foundation and community relations.

Powell is a well-known and respected Niagara Falls native with a passion for the city, county and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Since her early retirement from HSBC Bank in 2011, she has been an active medical center board member and has had oversight responsibility for the foundation and the medical center's current cardiac/stroke capital campaign.

Powell has an impressive background in community service, public relations and fundraising. She led public relations for the former Marine Midland Bank and Trocaire College. As a member of the medical center board, she has been a catalyst for key initiatives and projects that have enabled Memorial to continue providing a vast array of much-needed health services for Niagara Falls and surrounding area residents.

Powell will step into this role effective immediately and take the lead on a number of projects such as the Golisano Center for Community Health, community and governmental affairs, completion of the cardiac/stroke campaign, the Premier - Niagara Falls Memorial's annual signature fundraising event - and much more.

Powell many accomplishments, honors and community roles include: current Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School board chair; former trustee and chair for the Canisius College Women's Business Center and the Buffalo Urban League's Revolving Loan Fund Committee; past trustee of the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center, WNY Public Broadcasting Inc. and Diocese of Buffalo's Board of Catholic Education; inaugural chair of the selection committee for Business First's 40 Under 40 Awards; event chair for the YWCA of Buffalo's annual Women in Leadership Luncheon; and former vice chair of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership's Workforce Development Council.

The Niagara Gazette named Powell a Woman of Distinction in 2012. She was honored by the U.S. Small Business Association as the Women's Business Advocate for Western New York in 2003 and was named to the prestigious HSBC Group Chairman's Club in 2005. Both awards recognized her excellence in commercial business development and customer service.

In making the announcement of her appointment, Memorial President and CEO Joseph A. Ruffolo said, "Since joining the Memorial board of directors four years ago, Judi has been a driving force behind our foundation initiatives. It is only natural for her to officially take over the reins at this critical time in our growth. On behalf of the entire Memorial health system, we wish to share our sincere appreciation for Judi's willingness to take on this leadership role."

Powell holds a bachelor's degree from SUNY Geneseo and a master's degree in education from Buffalo State College. A member of the inaugural Leadership Buffalo Class of 1988, she lives in Grand Island with her husband, William.
