Plasterers recruit apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plasterers, Local Union No. 9, will conduct a recruitment from Oct. 7 through Sept. 7, 2016, for five plasterer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced.

Applications may be obtained at Local Union No. 9, 168 Robinson St., North Tonawanda, from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Wednesday of each month, during the recruitment period. 

The committee requires applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have completed the 9th
  • Must sign a statement, after selection and prior to indenture, indicating they are physically able to perform the work of a plasterer, which includes working at heights of 25 feet or more and lifting objects weighing as much as 70 pounds
  • Must participate in an interview, if selected
  • Must pass a drug test and physical exam, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and related instruction
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the commissioner.
