Erie County Fair daily highlights for Wednesday, Aug. 19

Here is what you need to know for day No. 8 of the Erie County Fair:

Deals and Discounts

  • Early Bird Admission.Guests who enter before 11 a.m. pay just $5 for admission.
  • Student Special. Students ages 13-22 receive $5 admission after 5 p.m. with proper ID.
  • One-Price-Ride Day. Unlimited ride wristbands are available for $30 on the Strates midway. Guests who pre-purchased their ride vouchers at Tops may redeem them at the Strates ticket booth at the top of the Avenue of Flags.

Live in the GUSTO Grandstand

•The Spinners. Celebrating more than a half of century making music, The Spinners have released 19 studio albums. The group debuted in the '70s, signed with Motown Records and scored hits with "Rubberband Man," "Working My Way Back to You/Forgive Me Girl" and "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love." This free show is part of the National Grid Concert Series. It begins at 7:30 p.m.

Special Events

•4-H and FFA Sheep and Meat Goat Dressing Contest. Exhibitors will take to the show ring with their sheep and meat goats in a unique fashion show. Animals and their handlers will be judged on their outfits and how well they tie into the pre-determined theme. The show will begin at 7 p.m. inside the Livestock Arena.

•4-H Sheep Show - This year's show includes 63 breeding sheep and 31 market lambs and will run from 10 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. in the Showplex. It is interesting to note that 15 of the sheep being shown are leased animals.

•Hunter and Jumper Horse Show. This show continues with a start time of 9 a.m. Wednesday. It will run until approximately 4 p.m., ending with the $1,000 Erie County Fair Team Challenge involving teams of three or four jumpers competing. The teams with the least number of faults will win.

Extras

•Mutts Gone Nuts. Dogs perform in a comedy stunt show that features balancing, jumping rope and commands that go way above sit and stay. All the dogs featured in the show are rescues. The hosts of the show remind the audience of adopting pets. The show is inside Kiddieland and takes place at 1, 3:30 and 6 p.m. daily.
