Cement Masons recruit apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Cement Masons, Local Union No. 111, will conduct a recruitment from Sept. 17 through June 16, 2016, for three to five cement mason apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced.

Applications must be completed from 9-11 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month (during the recruitment period) on site at the Local Union No. 111 office, 165 Division St., North Tonawanda.

The committee requires applicants:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).

Must have a valid New York driver's license (may be required to operate company-owned vehicles).

Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.

Must live within the jurisdiction of Local Union No. 111, which includes Erie and Niagara counties.

Must provide military transfer or discharge form DD-214, if applicable.

Applicants may be required to pass a substance abuse test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture. For further information, applicants should contact their nearest New York Department of Labor office or Local Union No. 111 at 716-695-1494.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the commissioner.
