Fri, Jul 10th 2015 03:55 pm

The Niagara County SPCA is seeking those responsible for the brutal beating of a snapping turtle July 6 in Wolcottsville.

According to the SPCA, the turtle was picked up on Cedar Road in Newstead and transported to a party at a residence on Royalton Center Road in Wolcottsville, where it was repeatedly stabbed with a pitch fork, beaten with a baseball bat, stabbed again with a frogging fork and thrown into a fire.

The Niagara and Erie county SPCAs were able to identify several individuals in a video of the incident, including those responsible for stabbing the turtle and throwing it into the fire, but animal cruelty investigators are still seeking the identity of the young man in the video who repeatedly strikes the turtle with a baseball bat.
The video can be found on the SPCA's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SPCAofNiagara or at https://youtu.be/TUsX5ZpIReg. The turtle has been blurred out in the video due to the graphic imagery. The video contains vulgar language.

Those responsible face charges of animal cruelty and several DEC violations. Anyone who was at the party or has any information on the identity of the individual with the baseball bat is urged to call the Niagara County SPCA at 716-731-4368, ext. 302.
