Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, renewed his call for the legalization of mixed martial arts in New York at a press conference Friday at the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls. During the event, Ceretto, Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster and a representative from Sen. Robert Ortt's office, spoke on the economic and tourism benefits the sport would bring to the region. Ceretto urged the state legislature to legalize MMA in New York before the conclusion of the 2015 session.
Ceretto said the Assembly and the Senate are close to reaching an agreement that would legalize MMA in New York. Each house is working on a compromised bill that would hash-out the details regarding insurance policies for professional fighters.
