KeyBank recently signed on as the exclusive sponsor of the 31st annual Chalk Walk Competition presented by the Lewiston Council on the Arts. The colorful event is the highlight of the Lewiston Art Festival, and features teams of talented high school art students from across Western New York.

Inspired by a different theme each year, teams design and then execute murals on the streets of Lewiston as they compete for prize money, trophies and bragging rights for their school.

The theme for the 2015 mural competition is "Invest in the Arts." Students will design a coin in the trompe l'oeil style and incorporate a key into the design.

"The arts enrich and strengthen communities, bringing to life the stories of who we are and what we value," said Bob Fagiani, manager of the Lewiston KeyBank branch. "This is why we're proud to support The Lewiston Council on the Arts. Through its programs, Lewiston residents are exposed to the great work of regional artists, and accomplished and aspiring artists have access to opportunities that can help them gain recognition and earn income from their art. The Chalk Walk is a great way to share this important message."

The competition will take place from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the intersection of Center and Fifth streets. "Arts are Key" prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place, as well as a People's Choice Award determined by audience vote.

Chalk Walk applications are available at www.artcouncil.org.
