The Town of Niagara Lions Club, beginning its 62nd year of service to the community, announced the Lee Corra Scholarship Award is available for the 2015-16 school year.

The $1,000 scholarship is in honor of Lee Corra, a deceased Lions Club charter member. It is available to a Town of Niagara resident attending any regional high school or any student attending Niagara-Wheatfield High School, regardless of residence location.

The applicant must be a senior student eligible for graduation at the end of this year; graduate with an overall grade of 85 percent or higher; show evidence of leadership, character and service to school and community; submit a 500-word or longer essay on a topic named on the application; and provide proof of acceptance from the applicant's college of choice.

The winner will be chosen from three finalists interviewed by the club's Scholarship Committee. In the event of a tie, financial need will be considered.

Application forms can be picked up from counseling offices in Niagara-Wheatfield High School, Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School or, for Town of Niagara residents at other high schools, at Marsh's General Store, 7535 Packard Road.

Applicants have until April 24 to complete the forms and submit them to their respective school counselors.

The Scholarship Committee is made up of Lions Jackie Boyce, Pat Finley, Bob Shively, Phil Silliman, John Teixeira and Chairperson Theresa White.
