Mount St. Mary's Hospital held a special ceremony Thursday as part of its Black History Month celebration. The hospital honored two associates, one department, and heard remarks from community activist Kenneth Hamilton.

Sharlene Richards, environmental services aide, and Melvin McNeese III, security/valet services, were presented with Special Recognition Awards for their service. In addition, the nutrition services department was recognized for its work each year on the "Soul Food" luncheon, which followed the award's ceremony.

Hospital President and CEO Judith A. Maness led the program, which is part of the hospital's annual celebration. A bake sale is scheduled for Friday.

A portion of the proceeds from the lunch and bake sale will be given to the hospital's mission committee, which assists employees in need.
