Power Authority to reopen south access road to Niagara Project fishing pier

Newly redesigned, paved road offers safer access to fishing pier

The New York Power Authority will reopen the south access road and pedestrian walkway leading to the popular free fishing pier at the base of the Niagara Power Project's Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant effective Saturday, Nov. 1. The shoreline stairway also will open for seasonal use. 

As a result of roadwork, the free shuttle service NYPA provided, to and from the pier from the Niagara Power Vista C parking lot will be terminated at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

The south access road was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the reconstruction of the road and walkways. The newly redesigned, paved road offers safer access to the fishing pier for vehicles and pedestrians. A new riverside walkway with a protective guardrail also was installed.

Pier parking is available at the top of the Niagara Gorge and parking is also available at the bottom of the hill near the secured entrance to the Niagara Project and adjacent fishing pier. The parking includes handicapped-accessible spaces.

NYPA fishing piers at the Robert Moses plant, near the Upper Mountain Fire Co. at the Lewiston Reservoir and at the Niagara River Intakes, will remain open daily from dawn to dusk and are free to use while weather permits. The piers will close for the season if there is snow or ice accumulation, or by Dec. 1 - whichever happens first.
