Mount St. Mary's Hospital plans for 7th annual Conference on Healthcare for Women

Mount St. Mary's Hospital will host the seventh annual "Conference on Healthcare for Women - For All Generations" to raise awareness among women in the local community on a wide array of issues and actions that can help improve their health.

This year's daylong conference is Saturday, Nov. 1, at The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls, 101 Old Falls St. The event will feature speakers, demonstrations and information displays, a luncheon and breakout sessions. Registration is $15 for the entire conference; advance registration is encouraged, as space is limited to the first 350 attendees.

The day opens at 8 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast. At 9 a.m., the conference will begin with remarks by Mount St. Mary's President and CEO Judith Maness. Becky Machado, director of Bikram Yoga of Williamsville, will be the guest speaker on "Copying in a World of Rapid Change." Tammie Lee Demler, host of "WNY Tonight," will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

Participants will be offered a variety of displays and live demonstrations, including:

·       Niagara Dermatology - Anne M. Ramsdell, M.D.

·       Exercise: Yoga/meditation - Laura Vendryes

·       Makeup and hair - Hair Chateau - Tammy L. Bundrock and Jessica Rodriquez

·       Foot checks - Dr. Jude Violante, podiatrist

·       Self-defense - Niagara Falls Police Department

·       Floral designs - RD Woodykins Creations - Diane Woodcock

·       Holistic health - Tatiana Amico, health coach

·       Acupuncture - Destin Radder, licensed acupuncturist, PLLC

·       Managing and understanding nurtraceuticals - Andrea Rosati, NP, Mount St. Mary's pelvic floor therapy; Dr. Kathryn Kopf, Mount St. Mary's physical therapy

·       Blood pressure screenings - Mount St. Mary's

·       Diabetes information - Center for Diabetes Education at Mount St. Mary's

Educational informational sessions will include:

•Pelvic health with Dr. Abeer Edibb, OB/GYN, WNY Urology Associates; and Dr. David Cuthbert, radiation oncologist, Cancer Care of WNY

•Varicose veins evaluation and treatment with Dr. Aimee Swartz, Vascular and Endovascular Center of WNY

•"Heart Health - A Women's Heart" with Dr. LuJean Jenning, cardiothoracic surgeon at Mount St. Mary's

•Spiritual health with Lora Allen, Betheny Missionary Baptist Church

•Natural baby care with Dr. Donna Fisher-Thompson of Niagara University; Karen Conlon, RN; and Angela Meisenburg, RN, of the Center for Women at Mount St. Mary's

•"Everything You Wanted to Know about Labor and Delivery" with Dr. Faraj Touchan, OB/GYN, Center for Women; and Dr. Sharmilee Thota, OB/GYN, Center for Women

•Gynecologic surgery/robotic surgery with Dr. Ali Ghomi, OB/GYN 

A lunch at noon will feature a panel of health care experts taking questions from the audience. Following a repeat of the demonstrations and presentations in the afternoon, the conference will conclude at 2:15 p.m.
