Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for June 20, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 214 calls from June 7 to 13. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 15 burglary false alarm calls and eight fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, June 7

•East River Road, harassment - A complainant stated that while he was at a tavern he was assaulted by the owner. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 51-year-old man from Grand Island for harassment in the second degree (a violation). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Old Carriage House Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject appeared to be intoxicated and was stumbling in and out of the roadway. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - Employees of McDonald's state that an unknown person(s) struck the side of building with a vehicle within recent hours causing moderate damage.

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call from a pay phone on the premise of a business. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any persons in need of assistance.

•Whitehaven Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated that someone was setting off fireworks somewhere in the area during the late evening hours. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any persons using fireworks.

Sunday, June 8

•Beaver Island State Park, reckless operation - A complainant stated that two vehicles were racing through Beaver Island State Park during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any vehicles matching the description given.

•Enola Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowners.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Property found - A complainant stated that he found two driver's licenses on the street near his residence and wished to turn them over to patrol.

•White Tail Run, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby residence during the evening hours. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowners.

•Old Carriage House Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he heard gunshots or fireworks in the area near his residence. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

Monday, June 9

•Baseline Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she received a suspicious phone call from a blocked number.

•Marilyn Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject came to the door attempting to sell books. The complainant stated she read on Facebook that the subjects were "casing houses to rob." Deputies located the subjects, who had all the proper paperwork (peddler's permit) from the Town of Grand Island to conduct business. The comments on Facebook were deemed to be unfounded.

•Carter Creek Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject came to the door attempting to sell books. The complainant was advised by patrol.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - Employees of a business stated that two customers began creating a disturbance when their unsigned aid checks were denied by employees as a form of payment. The subjects were advised by patrol and left without further incident.

Tuesday, June 10

•Beaver Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone removed the gas caps of two vehicles in his driveway. It was unknown at the time of the report if any gasoline was stolen.

•Ransom Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject came to the door attempting to sell books. The complainant was advised by patrol.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a U-Haul trailer becoming disconnected from a tow vehicle and then striking an overpass. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•South State Parkway, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a juvenile offender for unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic infractions. The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a bicyclist. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, June 11

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a dark-colored vehicle pulled into a business parking lot and began taking pictures of people then left in an unknown direction. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Colonial Drive West, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a subject came to the door attempting to sell books. The complainant was advised by patrol.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she observed a vehicle parked in a business parking lot with a small child inside and no one else around. The vehicle left shortly after the complainant called 911. Deputies located the vehicle nearby and advised the driver. The child was checked and seemed to be in good health.

•Fieldstone Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated two youths came to his door and asked to use his phone before leaving the area on foot. Deputies located the youths nearby and determined they had left school early. The youth's parents and school officials were advised.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that two dogs were running loose on the bike path. The dogs were reunited with the owner.

•East River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was speeding down the road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•East River Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

Thursday, June 12

•Grand Island Boulevard, open door - Deputies responded to a report of a burglary alarm at a local business and upon arrival located an open door. The business was checked and no persons were located inside. The open door was determined to be an oversight.

•West River Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was driving slowly up and down the street and then parked at Six Mile Marina. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, earlier in the day, an unknown male subject opened her apartment door and stuck his head inside. The subject saw the complainant and then closed the door and left.

•Waterford Park, larceny - Numerous complainants stating that, sometime during the night, someone entered their unlocked vehicles and stole various items from inside.

•Bush Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked on Bush Road near the bike path during the late hours of the night. The driver was advised and left without incident.

•North Lane, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked on the street for several days and was missing a rear window. Deputies located the owner and advised him.

•Havenwood Lane, parking complaint - A complainant stated that a trailer was illegally parked on the roadway. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Staley Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby residence during the late evening hours. Deputies spoke to the occupants and advised them.
