Veterans and the public are invited to join the Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park (One Naval Park Cove, Buffalo; http://buffalonavalpark.org/) and the Rotary Club of Buffalo Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m. for their annual Flag Day celebration at the 100-foot-tall Rotary flagpole (located at the corner of Marine Drive and Erie Street, at Canalside in downtown Buffalo). The patriotic celebration is free, as always, and will include free hand-held American flags, park event calendars and ice cream for all.

The park's 1812-replica America flag will be flying from the 100-foot-tall Rotary flagpole to commemorate the last year of the War of 1812 Bicentennial, celebrating 200 years of peace between the U.S. and Canada. This year also is the 200th anniversary of the "Star-Spangled Banner." Organizers said they are proud to have Buffalo Sabres "Anthem Guy" Doug Allen sing the Canadian and U.S. national anthems.

Ace Flag Co. is the park's official flag sponsor and Perry's Ice Cream is the park's official ice cream sponsor.

Founded in 1976 on Buffalo's waterfront, the Naval & Military Park is proud to serve as a Western New York asset. In addition to being the largest tribute to veterans of its kind in the U.S., the park serves as the historical anchor of the economic growth and development happening at Canalside, which is visited by hundreds of thousands of people annually. The not-for-profit park remains open for everyone to enjoy because of many volunteers and financial support from the community it serves.
