Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue's major fundraiser, "Cruisin' On The Canal," is Saturday, from 6-10 p.m. at Lockport Locks and Erie Canal Cruises. The event is open to the public; a limited number of tickets are still available.

The event includes a full evening of entertainment beginning with a one-hour canal cruise embarking at 6:30 p.m., followed by light dinner buffet and entertainment featuring the calypso/reggae sounds of the Caribbean Extravaganza Steel Drum Band. Patrons can take advantage of door prizes, and a basket and silent auction. Lockport Locks and Canal Cruises will feature a signature drink and will donate $1 from each sale back to the rescue.

HON continues to receive an outpouring of support from the Western New York business community, including two small independent business owners who have each adopted animals from Heart of Niagara. Adopters Kasi Gembola and Savannah Griffith, who have adopted "Sven" and "Howie," respectively, reached out to the rescue in an effort to help give back so that more animals can enjoy forever homes like their own dogs enjoy.

Gembola and Griffith will each have a booth on site at the event to sell their products and will then make a donation back to Heart of Niagara. Gembola and her colleagues represent Premier Designs Jewelry. They will donate 100 percent of the night's profits to the rescue. Griffith's business, Rustic Rare Crafts on Grand Island, features handmade bath and body products and rustic soaps. She will feature her special design paw print soap and will also make a donation from the night's sales back to the rescue.

A limited number of tickets to "Cruisin' On The Canal" are still available via PayPal on the events page at www.heartofniagara.org. Depending on availability, tickets will also be available at the door.

"Cruisin' On The Canal" is presented by Blackwinds Pet Supplies, Lockport Outdoor Store, All-Ways Warm Stove & Chimney, The Village Bake Shoppe, QLS Solutions Inc. and Niagara County Produce.

Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County, has adopted out more than 180 animals to date. HON operates solely on donations and the generosity and support of the public.
