Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, worked with his Assembly and Senate colleagues on the Legislature's Joint Mental Hygiene Budget Conference Committee to follow-up on a commitment to deliver better services to the developmentally disabled and others in need. Ceretto worked in a bipartisan manner to give human services employees a cost of living adjustment for the first time since 2006. This is one of Ceretto's top priorities and he will continue to work on the issue to ensure this is included in the final budget.

"By taking care of our human services workers, we take care of the developmentally disabled and others in need," Ceretto said. "When the cost of living rises every year, but our human services workers' salaries don't rise in scale, it is effectively a yearly pay cut. The lack of a COLA since 2006 is forcing our most talented human services workers into other jobs that pay enough to provide for their families, thus depriving the most vulnerable members of our society of the high-quality services they need. These human services workers deserve to be compensated for the full value of the compassionate services they provide."
