On Friday, the occupants of Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence received special Valentine's Day treats courtesy of the children at Mount St. Mary's Child Care Center, and Village Bake Shoppe owners Mike and Lindsay Fiore.

The children, who range in age from 6 weeks to 12 years old, made more than 200 hand-made Valentine's Day cards.

"A couple times a year, what the children do is they make greeting cards for the nursing home residents," said Virginia Wolbert, director of the Mount St. Mary's Child Care Center. "They love the kids; they can watch them on the playground from the windows. And so, it's just another way of saying, 'Hi, we love you.' And they love the people. So, everybody gets a greeting card from the kids."

"We have wonderful, wonderful cards," she added. "Hand prints, feet prints, fingerprints. Great stuff."

The Fiores donated more than 300 cookies, which were distributed to the nursing home residents and the child card crafters.

"We're just really happy to be thought of and participate, because it's great to know that we're going to make someone's day," Mike Fiore said. "That's what life's all about is shining a little light on someone."

Small business development consultant Stacey Sheehan connected the Village Bake Shoppe with the children and seniors.

"It's a true honor to be a part of this community and to witness these great collaborations, and I am thankful to all of you for your participation," she said. "Cupid's got nothing on this bunch!"
