American Legion New York state commander and auxiliary president visit Niagara County

The Niagara County American Legion Organization will host a joint visitation by State Commander Kenneth Governor, Auxiliary President Barbara Corker and Sons of the American Legion Detachment Commander John P. Chang on Saturday, March 1.

During the visitation Governor, Corker and Chang will visit local American Legion posts. A tour of a local point of interest is being planned. They will be received by the county on their arrival with a noon luncheon, held at Stephen Sikora Post No. 1322, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. At 7 p.m., a dinner will be held at LaSalle Post 1142, 8643 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls. Tickets, $30, are available by calling LaSalle Post No. 1142 at 716-283-0251.

Governor, a resident of North Greenbush, is a retired U.S. Army major with nearly 30 years of active and reserve service. He is a member of the North Greenbush Memorial Post 1489 in Rensselear County. He is a dual member of the Sons of the American Legion.

Corker was raised in the Bronx and has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary there for more than 34 years. She currently resided in Dutchess County where she is a real estate associate. Corker is the first auxiliary member from Bronx County elected to the high office of department president.

Chang was born in New York City and is currently a resident of Tarrytown. He is a member of the Lt. B.R. Kimlau Chinese Memorial Squadron 1291. He also is a dual member after serving 24 years in the Army Reserves.

During their one-year terms in office, the state commander, auxiliary president and detachment commander visit each of the 62 counties in New York state to coordinate Legion activities.
