The coldest days of the year are approaching us and have the community feeling down.  Take advantage of the snow, take these tips and grab your friends and have fun in the snow!

In the Niagara region, we are more than familiar with the bitter cold temperatures and the seemingly never-ending snow. This winter, you should take advantage of the climate and make the best of your winter.

The best way to enjoy the winter season is through local activities provided by local county parks. From tubing to ice skating or grabbing a hot drink, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the cold.

"My favorite way to pass time in the winter is bringing my friends to skate, then warm up with coffee and sweets," says Abigail, a weekly attendee of open skate. Bond Lake Park offers a large ice skating rink open throughout the winter months. After skating, there is a warming house available for attendees to warm up by the fire and relax in the seating area.

The next step to a perfect winter outing is heading somewhere to have hot cocoa, tea or coffee and, of course, delicious desserts! What better place to go than The Village Bake Shoppe on Center Street in Lewiston?

Abigail says, "The cake in a cup is my favorite dessert to get when I go."

If you are looking to be a bit more adventurous during the winter months, you can go tubing or cross-country skiing. Bond Lake Park offers both sledding and tubing throughout the winter months. Tubing is available Sundays, Saturdays and holidays from 11 a.m. till dusk. Call 716-731-3256 for more information. Town of Niagara Park has cross-country ski trails open daily throughout the season as well.

Whether you are sliding down the slopes or enjoying a hot drink, make the best of the cold and bring your friends and family along, too.
