Golden Age Center volunteers help out town

Fri, Jan 13th 2017 05:40 pm

Volunteers from the Grand Island Golden Age Center visited Town Hall to sort tax bills and stuff envelopes, continuing a twice-yearly tradition. Every year, volunteers organized by Nonnie Carroll help the town clerk's office with the work, saving taxpayers money because the town avoids paying overtime to hourly staff or outsourcing the work to a private company.

The Golden Agers volunteer twice a year: for the school tax bills sent in August, and the town and county tax bill, which Island residents should see in their mailboxes soon. A group of eight worked Jan. 10 in the downstairs conference room.
