The Buffalo Sabres announced the team will host a Unyts blood drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at First Niagara Center.

Presenting donors are welcome to walk in or make an appointment for a prearranged time. They'll receive a Buffalo Sabres autographed mini hockey stick and will have an opportunity to watch the Sabres' morning practice in the First Niagara Center seats. Donors will also have a chance to meet Sabretooth and members of the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association throughout the event.

Free parking will be available in the First Niagara Center ramp.

"The more blood donated through Unyts, the better equipped we are to supply our hospitals with a safe, high-quality, locally donated product that helps save lives in Western New York," said Mark J. Simon, president and CEO of Unyts. "We are honored to call the Buffalo Sabres a partner in furthering 'the gift of life,' and we look forward to working with them on Feb. 8."

To make an appointment, call 716-512-7940 or visit www.unyts.org, click "DONATE BLOOD" and use sponsor code: 001198.

Donors must bring their photo ID and must be 17 years of age or older. Those 16 years of age may donate blood with parental consent.

Unyts is among the leading organ procurement organizations in the U.S., and is one of only eight centers nationwide to house organ, eye, tissue and eye procurement in one location.

With the addition of the community blood service in 2007, Unyts became the only organization of its kind nationwide. It works to assist donor families, coordinate the donation process and increase knowledge and awareness regarding organ, eye, tissue and blood donation across Western New York.

Unyts' commitment is to enhance and save lives while maintaining respect for those who give "the gift of life."
