"Wish Girl" Elizabeth and her family, from Lockport, enjoyed a celebration at Frightworld, "America's Screampark," Sunday evening. Elizabeth, who goes by Lizzie, invited her parents and friends to attend the party - which included entrance into all haunted houses - located in the former BJ's Wholesale Club on Young Street in City of Tonawanda. Organizers at the scream park hosted the party in a VIP area for Lizzie and served pizza and other scary surprises for the young "Wish Girl."

Elizabeth battles cystic fibrosis. She recently returned from Walt Disney World Resort after wishing to travel there with her family through Make-A-Wish Western New York. While she was in Disney, she visited Universal Studios, had a grand princess makeover, and experienced numerous meet-and-greets with favorite characters and Disney princesses.

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. On average, Make-A-Wish grants 150 wishes annually in the 17-county territory of Western New York. Wishes are more than just a single moment in time. They have the ability to impact wish children and their families long-term and can be life-changing. While doctors heal bodies, Make-A-Wish is known by medical professionals to be "medicine for the soul".

The Frightworld experience was part of Lizzie's wish enhancement. Each "Wish Girl" receives gifts to enhance the wish experience. Examples include wish send-off parties, cameras, luggage, wish sacks full of toys and items related to the child's interests, character surprises, etc.

"Lizzie had an incredible time, and so did her friends," said Lizzie's mom, Martha Kershaw. "She was smiling all night, and it reminded of that same smile we saw while on our Disney trip. I just want to cry thinking about it."

"The mission of Make-A-Wish is bringing hope, strength and joy to deserving children's lives, and it takes wonderful companies and community supporters, like those from Frightworld, to help create lasting memories for wish families," Media Relations and Marketing Manager Kate Glaser said.

Special thanks to Frightworld General Manager Steve Szortyka for donating the wish celebration in honor of Elizabeth.
