Honored as part of Father's Day celebration at Moot Center; served as president of Moot senior program for 25 years

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined Friday by Commissioner of Senior Services Randy Hoak and enthusiastic seniors at the BFNC Moot Senior Center on High Street in Buffalo to honor Mrs. Ruby Palmer Godefrey as "Senior of the Month" for June.

Godefrey joined the BFNC Moot Center in 1982 and served as president of the Moot senior program for 25 years before retiring from that position in January. She also represented the Moot Center as a member of the Stay Fit Project Council and recently retired as an active participant in the Senior Companion Program, which she had been active in since 2002.

"Mrs. Godefrey is a big part of the Moot Senior Center and has volunteered countless hours over the years to improve the lives of others," Poloncarz said. "Her energy and enthusiasm are inspirational and it is an honor to join her today and congratulate her as 'Senior of the Month' for June 2015."

Hoak added, "Ruby has been a committed and dynamic member of her faith community and the Moot Senior Center for years, and is a great example of Erie County's active, engaged senior population. She may have retired from her active volunteer work, but she is still giving back to her community. It is an honor to recognize and celebrate her today."

Godefrey, 98, has been a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church since 1975, and was retired from Deaconess Hospital after working 22 years in the intensive care unit. A proud grandmother and great-grandmother, Godefrey also worked at Dates Laundry and Curtiss Wright during her career.

She was honored as part of a Father's Day celebration luncheon being held at the Moot Center.
