With warmer temperatures upon us, many are looking for reasons to make outdoor plans. Community Missions invites those looking to stretch their legs to the "Walk for Niagara," to be held this Saturday, April 25, at Whirlpool State Park. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and all funds raised will go to support the agency's crisis services.

The walk measures approximately two miles, from Whirlpool State Park to Devil's Hole State Park and back. Coffee and doughnuts will be available during registration and a picnic lunch, including hot dogs, cookies and other snacks, will be provided following the walk.

Pets on leashes are welcome in the park (a station will be set up to provide water for them). A playground also is available for children.

All are invited to walk in one of the following categories: individuals, whom Community Missions asks to raise a minimum of $20; a student team, asked to raise a minimum of $100; or a business team, asked to contribute a minimum of $250. Teams should consist of at least five walkers and all pledge sheets/money must be turned in together as a team.

Prizes will be awarded to individuals raising the most funds, and group prizes are awarded to both the student team and business team raising the most funds.

Individuals and groups must be present to win prizes.

Each year, the "Walk for Niagara" provides Community Mission's crisis services with necessary funds. Programs include the emergency housing shelter, community soup kitchen, food pantry, and clothes closet. Each of these supports individuals and families in the Niagara area with food, shelter and other items in times of need. This year, proceeds also will support the agency's youth efforts.

Current sponsors include Blackwinds Pet Supplies, Fidelis Care and LocalEdge. For more information regarding sponsorships, registration or pledges, visit www.communitymissions.org/walk-for-niagara, or contact Julie Whittemore at 716-285-3403, ext. 2293, or [email protected].
