County executive joins counterparts from WNY's eight counties in preparation for Armed Forces Week, May 3-9

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was recently joined by Bill Callahan, public affairs officer for the WNY Armed Forces Week committee, in order to affix his signature to a proclamation being prepared in advance of Armed Forces Week and honoring all U.S. veterans as well as the Gold Star Mothers whose sons and daughters gave their lives in defense of our freedoms.

Callahan personally travels to each of the eight county seats in order to secure signatures from county executives and supervisors for the proclamation.

This year marks the first time in the 55-year history of Armed Forces Week that the Gold Star Mothers will be recognized, with the local opening ceremonies for Armed Forces Week also including a special presentation of a Gold Star Mothers Memorial Plaque at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park. The opening ceremonies will be held at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Canalside, adjacent to the park.
