There has been a change at the top in the Youngstown Police Department.
Chris Salada, who has been serving as both part-time chief of Youngstown Police and full-time chief of the Lewiston Police Department, informed Youngstown Mayor Raleigh Reynolds and the village trustees last week of his plans to step down.
"It was just time," Salada said of the unexpected move to retire.
He has served as YPD part-time chief since 2008. Salada took over as chief of the Lewiston Police Department that same year, following Ron Winkley's retirement.
Salada said he made the move to retire from the Youngstown Police because he wished to devote more time to his family, particularly his high-school-age daughter.
"Before you know it, they're out their own," he said.
Salada will continue as chief of the Lewiston Police Department for the present time, but added he would be looking into other areas down the road. He didn't elaborate.
Reynolds said YPD Lt. Michael Schuey has taken over the day-to-day running of the part-time Youngstown Police Department, and he didn't anticipate any major changes in its operations.
