Congressman Brian Higgins and the office of U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand are hosting "U.S. Service Academy Night 2014," an opportunity for high school students and their families, as well as school administrators and counselors, to find out more about service academy institutions, programs and the application process.

Local students will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the Army, Navy and Air Force ROTC. Representatives will be available to answer questions and provide students with information relative to their respective school.

"Academy Night 2014" will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Williamsville South High School, 5950 Main St., Williamsville.

Service academy appointments are made by the president of the United States based on congressional and/or military nominations. The deadline for prospective student applications is Oct. 24 for Gillibrand's office, and Nov. 14 for applications submitted through Higgins' office.
