Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has been selected by the New York State Department of Health to administer the Niagara County Cancer Services Program.

The program, which previously operated under the auspices of the Niagara County Department of Public Health, oversees the delivery of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening and diagnostic services to eligible uninsured and underinsured residents.

Memorial will work with other Niagara County hospitals, health care providers and community-based organizations to conduct community outreach and provide screening, diagnostic and case management services along with public education.

Working together, providers also will help eligible individuals diagnosed with breast, cervical, colorectal or prostate cancer obtain prompt, comprehensive treatment.

"The Niagara County Health Department did an exemplary job of overseeing this program for the past several years," said Memorial Program Administrator Anne Passalugo, MPH. "We will look to build on their efforts to help uninsured and underinsured individuals by working with our partners to promote education, early intervention and screening on a countywide basis."

The Niagara County Cancer Services program will reach out to all current cancer services program partners as well as Memorial's 50 Niagara Health Home partners, local businesses and the medical center's countywide network of 10 New York State of Health insurance navigator sites.

Partners will distribute educational materials, sponsor or host screening and outreach events, and assist in promoting program goals.

For information and screening referrals or other information about the Cancer Services Program of Niagara, individuals can call the cancer services program state call center at 1-866-442-CANCER (2262).

"We are very pleased that our colleagues at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center are going to be continuing this very important and essential service for all of the communities of Niagara County. Our partnerships over the years have shown us how committed Memorial is to high quality care for everyone that they serve," said Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton.
