Town of Niagara Police Blotter for Aug. 21, 2014

The following is a sampling of calls received by the Town of Niagara Police between Aug. 9 and 18.

Saturday, Aug. 9

•Domestic, 7100 block of Colonial Drive Extension. A woman said her husband became physically and verbally abusive after he had been drinking. Medical treatment refused. A 55-year-old man was arrested.

•Noise complaint, Witmer Road. Complainant reported loud profane music coming from a picnic at Reservoir State Park. Parties advised.

•Check situation, 4900 block of Tuscarora Road. A woman reported neighbors' unsupervised children are constantly coming to her house and asking for food and complaining they are starving. Patrol checked house and found children, who seemed to be OK, supervised by a 16-year-old male. Mother was at grocery store.

Sunday, Aug. 10

•EMS, 8000 block of Crestview Drive. A 57-year-old man was choking on a piece of meat. He was transported by Rural Metro Ambulance to Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center.

•False alarm, 4600 Witmer Industrial Estates. Entry alarm at business. Doors checked; all secure.

•Check situation, 4700 block of Liberty Drive. Patrol checked residence for a possible domestic; call determined to be a loud family discussion in the back yard.

Monday, Aug. 11

•Drug arrest, 1900 block of Military Road. Patrol was at a mall store on a larceny complaint when alerted that a man in a white pickup outside was acting as a lookout. The 61-year-old man was arrested after patrol found five hypodermic needles and hydrocodone pills in the vehicle. The truck also had switched plates and was unregistered. A 47-year-old 22nd Street male was arrested in the store for shoplifting three bottles of perfume valued at $56.97.

•Shoplifting, 1500 block of Military Road. A 52-year-old 80th Street woman was arrested at a grocery store for concealing nail polish, bacon, deodorant, toothbrushes and butter in her purse. Value of the items was $75.99.

•Disorderly conduct, 2200 block of Fashion Outlet Boulevard. A fight was reported in the parking lot involving two females and a red pickup truck. Gone on arrival.

Tuesday, Aug. 12

•Check situation, 3300 block of Hyde Park Boulevard. Caller reported an elderly female asking for a ride in front of a store. Woman said she did not have any money and was looking for a ride into the city. Patrol took her to Ashland Avenue.

•Suspicious person, 1500 block of Military Road. Restaurant employee reported a man ringing the bell and knocking on the door after hours. Patrol located a person matching his description talking with construction workers. He said he was attempting to let someone know that the water would be temporarily shut off due to a water line being attached to the main line at the construction site.

Friday, Aug. 15

•Shoplifting, 1500 block of Military Road. Grocery store reported several thefts by a man in the early hours of the morning, the latest being on Aug. 8 at 3:22 a.m., when he took $518.62 worth of entryway rugs.

•Arrest, 2500 block of Military Road. A 24-year-old Woodside Place man was arrested after he concealed baseball trading cards in his pants and left the store. During booking a secondary search was conducted and a plastic baggie containing pills and small orange strips was found taped to drawstrings on the inside of his sweatpants. He pulled away from patrol, grabbed the bag and ingested the contents. He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for a health and mental evaluation.

 •Shoplifting, 1900 block of Military Road. A 40-year-old 19th Street woman was arrested for taking $348.80 in children's clothing from a business. Securing officer reported the woman left, ran across the parking lot and jumped into a vehicle with an unknown male who refused to drive away. She left the car, and continued to run, but fell. She was taken into custody, but was uncooperative and appeared intoxicated.

Saturday, Aug. 16

•Shoplifting, 2500 block of Military Road. Store loss prevention officer said a woman took 13 items and left the store, denying allegations when confronted. When patrol checked the license plate of the car she left in, it came back to a North Tonawanda address. North Tonawanda police located the suspect near her home. The 43-year-old woman was taken back to the store where she was identified as the shoplifter and arrested.

•Neighborhood disturbance, 8100 block of Crestview Drive. Loud party complaint; patrol advised that music be turned off for the evening.

Sunday, Aug. 17

•Animal noise, 1000 block of West Creek Drive. Neighbor had trapped an animal inside a safe trap. The animal was released as patrol arrived.

•Juvenile problem, Anthony Drive and Quain Place. Patrol checked a complaint of seven to eight juveniles playing with fire; juveniles fled as patrol arrived.

•Domestic, Expressway Village. Woman complained her husband choked her and threatened her life. The 33-year-old man was arrested.

Monday, Aug. 18

•Shoplifting, 1500 block of Military Road. A 30-year-old 78th Street man reportedly took two family packs of steak valued at $83.07, concealed them inside his hooded sweatshirt, then dropped them in the parking lot as he fled.

•Shoplifting/accident, Packard Road and I-190. A Falls Street woman and a Lockport man believed involved in a shoplifting incident, drove off on a bicycle and soon were seen getting into a vehicle and the bicycle being put in the trunk. The vehicle was traced and the driver said he had struck the bicycle while making a right hand turn at the ramp. Suspects were found at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
