Families attending this week's "Free Family Saturdays" at Artpark (July 19, noon-4 p.m.), will be treated to two performances of "Peter and The Wolf" (1 and 3 p.m.). The Greater Niagara Ballet Co. will present the show on the amphitheater stage under the direction of GNBC artistic director and founder Beverley Feder and assistant director Julie Traver.

"Peter and the Wolf" is the story of a young boy who ventures out into the forest, against his grandfather's orders, to catch a wolf. The best hunters of the village also are chasing the wolf. But, with the help of his animal friends, Peter catches the wolf using only a rope lasso. The brave Peter, accompanied by the hunters and his animal friends, becomes the hero of his village.

Audiences will enjoy familiar music, vibrant costumes, beautiful dancing and animated narration of the story.

"Free Family Saturdays," sponsored by Catholic Health, takes place from July 27-Aug. 2 (noon-4 p.m.) in the family activities area in the outdoor amphitheater. In addition to special performances, families can enjoy a variety of themed "make and take" hands-on art activities, the costume closet, paint space, pottery wheel and live performances by Niagara University Repertory Theatre.

"Free Family Saturdays" can be accessed via the Portage Road entrance (walk down the red brick road or staircase) or through the South Fourth Street entrance nearest the Mainstage Theater (walk up the red brick road). Free parking is available.
