Town of Lewiston Supervisor Dennis Brochey was recognized Sunday as the Lewiston Democratic Committee's Democrat of the Year for 2014 at a brunch at the Niagara Falls Country Club.

Brochey, who was elected last fall as Lewiston supervisor, was a longtime Village of Lewiston business owner and served on the village's Board of Trustees. He ran for the office of supervisor in an effort to better control town spending and provide for greater transparency at Town Hall.

Brochey is the founder and director of the Red Brick Bench Press Championship. He's been active for years in assisting military family support groups in Western New York. His fundraiser has raised more than $100,000 for military troops and their families over the years.

In addition, Brochey has been active in the community, serving on the board and in various roles for the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston; he is a recipient of the Lions Club's "Community Service Person of the Year"; and is an active member of Lower Niagara Moose Lodge No. 584.
