Maziarz announces local businesses selected under Recharge NY

State Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-C-Newfane, has announced that 20 businesses in Niagara and Orleans counties were selected under the first round of allocations under the new "Recharge NY Program" at Wednesday morning's New York Power Authority board meeting.

The new, robust program will make 910 megawatts of low-cost electricity available to companies committed to creating and retaining jobs in New York. Businesses and institutions that receive Recharge New York power allocations will be allowed to enter into contracts with the NYPA for up to seven years, which provides long-term certainty to encourage new investment and expansion. Recharge New York will reserve at least 350 mw for economic development in the National Grid, NYSEG, and RG&E service territories and 200 mw to attract new investment, thus ensuring that the new program will result in both job retention and job creation. In addition, Recharge New York will reserve 100 mw for not-for-profits, such as hospitals, thus protecting jobs in institutions that provide critical services to our communities.

"The Recharge NY Program is something that I championed in Albany in order to provide both jobs for this area as well as stability for companies in the assurance of a seven-year contract," Maziarz said. "The businesses awarded these contracts are very deserving and they show their commitment to this area. I applaud the New York Power Authority for their selections, as this low cost energy will inevitably help keep businesses in this area for a long time."

Memorial Medical Center's allocation will enhance our ability to provide quality health care and spur economic development in downtown Niagara Falls."

The businesses selected in Orleans County include: Associated Brands Inc., Claims Recovery Financial Services, H.H. Dobbins Inc., JP Morgan Chase and Saint-Gobain Adfors. Those selected in Niagara County include: Ascension Industries Inc., Candlelight Cabinetry Inc., Delphi Automotive Systems, Eastern Niagara Hospital, International Fiber Corporation, Kaleida Health-DeGraff Memorial Hospital, Mayer Bros. Apple Products, Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Norampac Ind. Inc. Niagara Falls Division, Pivot Punch Corporation, Precious Plate Inc., Snyder Industries, Yahoo! Inc., and Young Woman's Christian Association.
