Niagara Tourism & Convention Corporation has committed 2012 to philanthropic activities, addressing the issues and needs of the Niagara County community. Previously, NTCC would adopt a family for Christmas, but this year decided to create a program that would allow it a broader reach. Each month, the 13-member staff nominates one charitable group to focus on. "12 Months of Giving" has already helped various charities in Niagara USA, including Community Missions of the Niagara Frontier and SPCA of Niagara County.

For March, NTCC staff spring cleaned and donated bags of clothes, toiletries, kitchenware, bedding and more, to the Casey House, a 24-7 emergency short-term shelter for runaway, homeless, at risk and throwaway youth. It's a 12-bed co-ed facility for ages 12-17.

Two charities have been selected for April: Gods Woman Vanessa Scott Outreach Ministries and the Niagara Beautification Commission. Through cash donations, Gods Woman was able to buy turkey, ham, yams, pies, macaroni and potato salads for Easter dinner. On April 21, staff will assist in cleaning up the downtown corridor.

NTCC staff will walk one, three or five miles for the National MS Society on May 6 at Walk MS in Lockport.

"We have increased our philanthropic efforts to create a countywide understanding of the necessity for community service and raise awareness of the many needs in our community," said John Percy, NTCC president and CEO. "We welcome our constituents to join with us in the program."

Quality Hotel & Suites at the Falls teamed up with the agency to help with the Casey House, and donated a macaroni salad to Gods Woman. NTCC is still looking for groups to help for July, August, September and December. Contact NTCC with any suggestions.

The mission of the NTCC is to expand the economic prosperity of the Niagara USA communities by generating individual and group visitation.
