Sharon Green, a reading coordinator in Niagara University's Office of Academic Support, recently presented a poster at the National Association for Developmental Education's 36th annual conference in Orlando, Fla.

The display, titled "Becoming Authorities on their Reading through Public Poster Presentations," illustrates an assignment that Green's students complete in her combined reading and writing course, critical literacy (CRL 101). After reading "high-interest" books, students design posters and present them to the campus community. The approach is intended to encourage students to read more actively and carefully so that they are able to respond to questions about their books and posters.

Since 1976, the National Association for Developmental Education and its members have helped learners at all levels of preparedness realize their full academic potential. The NADE seeks to improve the theory and practice of developmental education at all levels of the educational spectrum, the professional capabilities of developmental educators and the design of programs to prepare developmental educators.
