Debbie Reed and Molly Gurman are the new Wheatfield Recreation program specialists for the town's Youth Center at 2795 Church Road.

Reed has been employed at Summit Park Pharmacy for the past seven years. Her role at the pharmacy has allowed her to develop a strong presence in the community working at or volunteering at several town functions, according to Recreation Director Ed Sturgeon. One of her successful community endeavors was hosting a free community Easter Extravaganza at Boulder Commons two years ago. She has been involved with the Youth Center for the past 15 years from a parent volunteer to a staff member and now moving into an administrative roll.

Gurman is currently serving through AmeriCorps at a Buffalo Charter School as a literacy program assistant. She is a Niagara University graduate with a bachelor's degree in special and childhood education and a master's in literacy. This past summer, under Gurman's direction and supervision, campers supported the local Wheatfield Farmers Market. She is looking forward to using her past experience as program and camp director to create a safe, structured and organized environment for children.

With their extensive experience they are planning new and exciting programs starting with a very affordable structured camp, Sturgeon said.

This camp will run during the week of Niagara-Wheatfield School District's winter break in February. Programming will include a variety of structured activities consisting of culinary arts, arts and crafts, fitness and science experiments. Camp space is limited.

Contact the Youth Center at 504-1273 or Recreation Department at 731-3942 for more details.
