New ice rink opens

Thursday evening saw the official grand opening of the new winter ice rink facility in Academy Park, operated by the Town of Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department. Above, a couple of little ones try out the ice as town recreation workers skate around in the background.

Recreation Director Mike Dashineau reports the rink is open for free skating weekdays from 5 to 9 p.m., and weekends from noon to 9 p.m. A warming tent, where skate rentals are available, borders the facility.
