Elizabeth Berger, a Niagara University student from Mount Morris, N.Y., has been selected as the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship from the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.

The award is presented annually to nine criminal justice majors nationwide through the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Scholarship Program, which was established in 1978 to recognize the former FBI director's pursuit of excellence in educational standards.

"I am truly honored to be counted among the recipients of this prestigious award," said Berger, a third-year Niagara student who plans to graduate in May due in part to her willingness to take summer classes - and her 4.09 grade point average. "This honor has filled me with excitement for the future and will continue to inspire me to reach my full potential as I finish my education. I am extremely grateful and would like to thank everyone involved."

Niagara University received the scholarship thanks to a recommendation from Brian Tone, class of 1971, a retired special agent with the FBI and a current member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.

The Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Inc. is a fraternal, educational and community-minded organization of nearly 8,000 members who served with honor as special agents in the FBI.
