Wayne Thomson joked that Carolynn Ioannoni, his colleague on Niagara Falls council, was in Grade 7 when he started working on the city's people-mover project.
Someone, it was suggested, must be getting old.
"Not me," Thomson said with a smile following council's hour-long special meeting Thursday night when it approved a 10-year agreement with the Niagara Parks Commission, bringing to a conclusion long and contentious negotiations and giving the green light to a concept which has been on the table in various formats for more than 30 years.
We've seen it as a monorail, a train and, now, as a bus line that will transport tourists throughout the city, taking them to hotels, restaurants and various attractions and businesses unlike ever before.
The $50-million project, named the Visitor Transportation System, is expected to be operational next summer.
