Noted author, historical drama and battle re-enactments are weekend highlights.

On Aug. 13 and 14, British redcoats will square off with American continental soldiers as Old Fort Niagara hosts its annual "Soldiers of the Revolution" event. Weekend activities include two battle re-enactments, interactive games for families, demonstrations of muskets and muzzle-loading artillery, military music, and historical drama.

New to this year's event will be a Saturday talk by Dr. Paul Lockhart, author of "The Whites of Their Eyes," a new book on the Battle of Bunker Hill. On Sunday, re-enactors will recreate the dramatic court martial of a British soldier. Battle demonstrations both days will illustrate the conflict that engulfed the New York frontier between 1777 and 1782.

The event will also offer children the opportunity to enlist in either the British or American armies and take part in a mock battle.

Information, including hours of operation, can be found at www.oldfortniagara.org or by calling 716-745-7611.
